This is Surprising

After reading some more letters of Swami Vivekananda I’ve experienced some great views of him. His approaches and the way of interpreting the religious sayings are unique and they will surely have a great effect on the readers.
In a letter to Pramadadas Mitra, Vivekananda have asked many questions, out of which only a very few are to my level of understanding and knowledge. Questions like “in whom, moreover are we to put our faith? Everybody seems to be mad over establishing his view; if, according to Vyasa, even the great Muni Kapila “the greatest among the perfected souls”, is himself deeply involved in error, then who would say that Vyasa may not be so involved in a greater measure? Did Kapila fail to understand the Vedas?” even though I don’t know who is Muni Kapila and what Vedas are about, I can grab the overall  meaning of what Vivekananda is asking. In his questions to Pramadadas Mitra he reveals some self contradictions and deviations present in the spiritual scriptures. His last question “Vyasa makes out in the Vedanta Sutras that it is wrong to worship the tetrad of divine manifestation, Vasudeva, Sankarshana etc., and again that very Vyasa expatiates on the great merits of that worship in Bhagavata! Is this Vyasa a mad man.” is outstanding and the courage to ask such a question in a very effective manner highlights him as a great path maker. Most of us do not possess this courage of expressing our thoughts in their real form. We manipulate our ideas for this greedy world and so we lose our naturality or we just have them within us without expressing them and lose ourselves.
In another question Vivekananda makes the readers to feel that he is the one who can inspire anyone. “If in his act of creation God is dependent on good and evil Karmas, then what does it avail us to worship him? ...” This will make everyone of us to feel the same. Then he adds “…If what lies in ones destiny is to happen anyhow, O mother then what good all this invoking by the holy name of Durga?” These lines are from a song of Nareshchandra. These questions surprised me a lot. I bet no one can answer this question except an atheist   :P :P :P  and I am very happy after knowing that he was also disturbed with the ideology of God during his years on earth.

AN ADDITION TO MY ROUTINE

For the first time in my misty life I’ve started reading a book with spiritual colors with some enthusiasm. ‘Letters of Swami Vivekananda’ I’ve read some of his letters from this collection which he wrote to his friends and spiritual advisors like Pramadadas Mitra,Master Mahashaya, Balaram Bose,Swami Ramakrishnananda,D.R.Balaji Rao etc., and they disappointed me to a little extent.  I expected something different with powerful words of Vivekananda when I bought this book. I think I’ll read those wonderful thoughts of him in coming letters. But I am astonished with the vocabulary and the usage of several words in an inspiring way. The way of presenting his thoughts makes me to feel inferior as I couldn’t even understand all of them in my first flow. I read every letter at least twice to grab its full meaning.
But I don’t know why some of the letters are added to this collection. They have nothing special in them except the sender. I don’t want to blame the compiler for adding them in this collection as I may not be worthy of understanding their real value to the core.
Apart from its spiritual ingredients it also makes us familiar of some complex ways in which our feelings can be projected without being harsh. Several expressions (for example, in a letter written to Master Mahashaya, Vivekananda says “my heart leaps with joy-and it is a wonder that I do not go mad when I find anybody thoroughly launched into the midst of the doctrine which is to shower peace on earth hereafter”) used are too effective. I find this book as a good collection of letters to spend time with.  So I would like to share my views on this book with you under the label
“Letters of Swami Vivekananda”.
